Capital Greek letter Sigma is used to represent a sum of numbers. Next to the sigma is a formula with a variable to input: the lowest input is on the bottom of the sigma, and you substitute in every integer until you reach the highest input that is listed on top of the sigma. Here we do some basic sigma calculations by hand- in the future, you may wish to look for shortcut formulas for these types of sums.
