Our first goal in solving a multi-step equation is to simplify each side of the equation as much as possible. Here we look at using the distributive property and combining like terms to make each side as simple as possible before doing solving techniques of adding or subtracting something to both sides of the equation. Check your final answer by substituting the answer back into the original problem.
