To begin any solving, we undo any addition or subtraction that is being done to the variable by doing the opposite operation. This is mathematically valid as long as we do the same thing to both sides of the equals sign. From there, we may have x multiplied by something. To un-do any multiplication or division, we use the opposite operation. Don't forget to make sure your final result is x = __, and not - x = ___ ! If you end up with -x, try dividing both sides by -1 to isolate x.
