When we multiply a variable times itself, the exponents get added- that is, x times x is x squared, or 2x times x to the third would be 2x to the fourth. The coefficients would get multiplied, but the exponents get added. Make sure to multiply the monomial outside the parentheses by every term of the polynomial that is inside the parentheses.
