We can add together polynomials by combining the "like terms," or parts of the polynomial that have the same exponents on the same variable. Add the coefficients, or numbers out front, but leave the exponents unchanged. It may be helpful to write the polynomials in standard form as an organizational technique, but that is not necessary to get the correct sum.
