Probability is the ratio of successes to total possible outcomes. With geometry, we can write a ratio of areas. The numerator will be the area of the "successful" shape and the denominator will be the total area. It is interesting to think about pictures that would have the same geometric probability, but eh "success" region is placed in a different location in the total area or even split into smaller pieces.
