For different real life scenarios, we can anticipate whether the mean, median, or mode would best represent the center of a data set. We might use a mode for a categorical data set where we are looking for the most common outcome. The median is best when you think the data set might have extreme values, or outliers. The mean is like the average, and is good if you expect the values to be pretty uniform.
