You can find a middle, or center value of a data set using either the mean, median, or the mode. The mean is highly affected by outliers. It is pulled higher or lower by extreme values. The median is not affected by outliers, but may not show a true typical value. As we see here the most common, or mode, may or may not be a typical value, either. Here we look at an example of a company's salary and discuss when you might use each different center.
