As with solving any equation, our goal is to get the variable all by itself. The way we do it is to "un-do" what's being done to x by using the opposite math operation. Addition and subtraction are opposites, and multiplication and division are opposites. Fractions are another way of representing division, so you might need to multiply by some kind of reciprocal to get the variable alone.
