It is difficult to do operations on fractions if they are written as mixed numbers, so we re-write them as improper fractions first. This doesn't change the values at all, but just re-writes them in a form that is easier to work with. Once they are improper fractions, we divide as we would with any fractions- leave the first fraction the same, but flip the second and turn it to multiplication. Don't forget to reduce at the end if possible.
