Percents are one of the most commonly used types of math in the real world. In most states, when we choose an item to buy in a store, we not only pay the price listed, but also an additional state tax (ranging from 0-8%, depending on state.) Also, when we eat out, we need to be able to calculate, or at least estimate, the price of our food plus the state tax and plus a tip for the server. These are just some examples of when we use percents in the real world- there are many other examples- and the level of precision that we need depends on the situation.
