We can solve percents using the proportion "is/of = percent/100" since a percent is a ratio out of 100. In these examples, we solve for the unknown "is" number when a problem is presented like, "what IS 5 percent of 20?" We place a variable on the top of the first fraction and then solve using cross multiplying.
