Although you technically don't have to reduce fractions before you multiply them, reducing first makes the numbers you'll be working with smaller. If you don't reduce at the beginning, you'll have to do it at the end, anyway. Here, we practice reducing monomial rational expressions first by crossing out any factors that are the same in top and bottom of a fraction first, and then multiplying.
