Although you have a choice whether to rationalize a denominator first and then simplify, or to simplify the radicals first and then rationalize, you often will have smaller numbers to work with if you simplify first. Here, we look at simplifying radical expressions that have both integers and variables, and then rationalizing the denominator as a way of dividing radical monomials.
