The equation for the volume of a box is length times width times height, so it is likely that you will actually be dealing with a cubic function. Put it into standard form by setting it equal to zero, expanding any products, and ordering the terms so the exponents go in decreasing order. Since x will most likely be a common factor, you can factor it out or look to use factoring by grouping to factor your polynomial. Set each factor equal to zero to solve for x. Substitute your x value back in to make sure that your calculations are correct.
