A recursive formula has two key elements: it tells the first term in a number pattern, and it tells how to find the "n'th" term. The n'th term is defined by the term preceding it, which is the "n minus one" term. To start, list the first term. Then try to identify what is being done to each term to move to the next number in the pattern.
