An arithmetic sequence is a number pattern where there is a constant difference, d, that is added to get from one term to the next. Here we look at arithmetic series, or sums, presented in sigma notation, where the d value is fractional. In order to use a shortcut formula, you'll need to know the value of d and what the first term in the number pattern is. If you can't tell from looking at the Sigma notation, then plug in the first few integers until you can recognize the pattern.
