Operations like adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing functions is just like combining like terms. It is very intuitive. Common errors with subtraction are forgetting to distribute the negative sign, with multiplication- forgetting to FOIL two binomials properly, and with division- forgetting to include a domain restriction for any input value that would make the denominator zero.
