A frequency table is a way of keeping track of how many elements, often taken from a survey, are in each category. To find the probability that an item selected at random is from any given category, find the ratio of number in that category to the total number of elements. All of the elements in all of the categories are called the sample space, and the sum of all of the probabilities in a sample space should always be 1, or 100%. The probability that an event does NOT occur is called the complement of that event and is found by doing 1 - the probability that the event DOES happen.
