The fundamental counting principle tells us how many groupings are possible when we pick one from each category. If there is no overlap and repeating isn't an issue, we just multiply the number of choices from each category. However, if there IS a restriction about repeating, you will have to reduce the number in each category by one in each factor. Here, we look at examples including password creation and license plates, and telephone numbers are also often used.
