If you’re a senior and applying for an October 15 Deadline, you should take your ACT by the spring of your junior year, ideally. If that’s not the case, then aim to have the ACT taken by September of your senior year. If you’re taking the SAT or the SAT subject tests, the latest that you should take them is October. If you’re applying for the December 1st or December 15 deadline, you still want to take the ACT by September, but you can take the SAT and the SAT subject tests by November. If you’re applying for the late December or early January deadline, you should have all your testing done by December; some schools may let you take the January exam. If you’re applying for a February deadline, you should still try to get everything done by December, but some schools may take exam scores as late as January.
