The “Why This College” essay is asked by many colleges so you should really think about it beforehand. You don’t want to put in a summary of information from the school website. The college admissions officers already know this stuff. They want to know about you. Also, don’t just list the professors in a department. Talking about rank and reputation is also a bad idea. College admissions officers don’t want to think that you’re only interested in the rank of the school, they want to know which academic programs you’re interested in and why. Expressing interest in the campus and the culture is also valid. Other topics to consider are research opportunities and ways in which you will personally contribute to the school.
