About Me
I have degrees from Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan. I've taught for 5 years and currently enjoy teaching high school geometry and algebra. I use lots of manipulatives to help students at all levels grasp the concepts.
How I Teach
I use stories so students can see I'm a person, not a robot, and so they can see that math is used in daily life -- besides for counting change.
In this course, you'll explore the basics of geometry through the examination of everyday objects, pictures, and diagrams. Melissa teaches easy-to-remember tricks for measuring angles, area, perimeter, volume, and surface area of different shapes and figures. She also spends a lot of time on proofs, one of the most difficult geometric concepts to master. After this course, you're sure to see geometric concepts all over the place - outside, at home, and even in a pool hall!
