When the angle is 45 degrees in a right triangle both legs are equal in length.  Now use the Pythagorean theorem: a^2 +b^2 = c^2Since a = b you have 2*(3^2)*2 = 36 = c^2c = 6

If this is for a trigonometry class I suggest you learn the SOH CAH TOA rules. Since you said the opposite side I assume you did.  So since you have the opposite and want to find the hypotenuse, you have to use the tangent (TOA) formula.  So the Tan(45)=O/H=3root2/H... solve for H and you get H = 3root2/tan(45)  Hope that helped.
