Let Length =L, Width=WThen, by the def of a rect, perimeter of a rectangle equals to 2L+2W=22,and length exceeds the the width by 5 inches, so sub for L by (W+5)2(W+5)+2W=22, then solve for WW=3,solve for L by sub for W=3 in L=W+5,L=8check the answer:2(3)+2(8)=22Length =8, Width=3
