Let the speed if boat in still water=x mi/h speed of current=y mi/h So the speed of the boat downstream=x+y The speed of the boat upstream=x-y The times are given, the distance is given 210/(x+y)=10   ( for upstream) 210/(x-y)=70   ( for downstream) 210=10(x+y) 210=70(x-y) Solving, x=12  y=9 The speed of boat is 12mi/h in still water, and the speed of still water is 8mi/h so,
