How do you know which metal to put first when naming the compounds? Lets say they tell you that the compound consists of 6 molecules of hydrogen and 1 molecule of carbon. Which atom do you name first?

As a typical pattern, if there is a metal and nonmetal compound, the metal goes first. When there is a nonmetal and nonmetal, the positively charged one goes first.
