Isotopes are elements that  have same number of protons(or electrons) , same atomic number but different number of neutrons in the nucleus , so different mass number.

An isotope is an element with the same amount of protons and electrons, but different amount of neutrons. One noticable example would be Carbon-12 and Carbon-14. The carbon in the periodic table is Carbon-12 becuaseit is the most common isotopeof carbon. Most elements in the periodic table are not radioactive, but their isotopes may.
