Are you solving for y?  Are you graphing this relation? Try this.  Subtract 4x from both sides.  6y = -4x +12 Now divide both sides by 6 y = (-4/6)x + 2 = (-2/3)x + 2 This is the famous y = mx + b form of a straight line with a slope of "m" and an intercept of "b" so your line has a slope of -2/3 and an intercept of 2 Find y = 2 on the y axis.  Mark that point.  Go down 2 steps and right 3 steps.  Mark that point.  Connect the two points and extend the straight line.  That is your graph.

Are you being asked to solve for x or solve for y? Since their are 2 variables, you will not be able to get a number as an answer.When you are being asked for the answer to this type of problem, you are being asked to solve for one of the variables. Are you being asked to solve for x or solve for y?
