The cell wall is the tough, usually flexible but sometimes fairly rigid layer that surrounds some types of cells. It is located outside the cell membrane and provides these cells with structural support and protection, and also acts as a filtering mechanism.

A cell wall is something that only exists on a plant cell. Animal cells have cell membranes, but plant cells have both. (I think, I'm pretty sure.) I believe that plant cell wall helps plants maintain their rigidity (you know how trees are hard, right? That's thanks to the cell walls that plant cells have).
