All you have to do is simplify everything on both sides, and then bring the x values to one side. For example:5x+5 = 4x+1all you have to do is first subtract 4x from both sides, which gives you:x+5 = 1Now all you have to do is subtract 5 from both sides, and you have your answer. x = -4. When you get to more complicated problems, you will have to factor in order to get your solutions.
