The basic definition of slope is, in mathematical terms, rise over run. What this means is that slope is equal to the difference of the two y-values divided by the difference of the two x-values. slope = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)In math, slope is usually written as m. The above equation is basically saying that y2-y1 is the difference of the two y-values. Y2 being the second y-coordinate and y1 being the first.
