could anyone help with a physics question? the question is if a car moves 8 units north +6 units east what is its displacement?

Displacement basically answers the question "How far is it from the object?" This is the shortest distance from the original starting point to the place where the object is. The diagram of this problem is shown below.6 units-------------------------------O                  l                                         Stopping                  l                                            Point                  l     8 units                  l                  l                  l                 O   Original Starting PositionBecause of the fact that two vectors always form a right angle, we can say that the displacement is the square root of 6^2 +8^2. Simplifying this gives us an answer of 10 units, forming a 45 degree angle to the horizontal (x) axis.
