What parts of the triangle are you given as being congruent already?  Usually it is either Side-Angle-Side (SAS) or Angle-Angle-Side(AAS) or side-side-side (SSS) or Angle-Side-Angle (ASA) or just NEVER Angle-Side-Side...I remember it spells A-S-S.. NOT a good thing.  also AAA won't work for congruent.  That is the trickiest to remember it won't work for congruent, only works for similiar triangles.
