Tony -Your teacher is correct, the common ratio is 0.96.This problem is a geometric sequence.  Every time you wash the jeans, 4% or 0.04 of the color disappears. Look at it step by step...No wash = no color loss = 100% = 1.001 wash = 1.00 x .04 = .04 color loss, so 1-.04 = .96 color still left, agree?2 washes = 0.96 x .04 = 0.0384 color loss, so 0.96 - 0.0384 = 0.9216 color still left.3 washes = 0.9216 x 0.04 = 0.036864 color loss, so 0.9216 - 0.036864 = 0.884736 color still left. This sequence goes on for infinity. If you look carefully, you will notice that this is the formula for each repetition:Hope this helps
