A good way to significantly reduce it is to bicycle or walk when given the option to go in a car, or at least use public transportation or combine trips.

Can't help but add some more to this topic. Please write to the actors, actresses and especialy Al Gore and ask them to practice what they preach by reducing their consumption. Currently they use their money to buy energy credits, pollution credits, carbon credits but do little to actually cut down as they expect you to do.  If they do cut consumption it is with wildly expensive devices that most will never be able to afford.  No change to their life style.  Support all efforts at all levels to start up clean nuclear power plants.  No other method will sustain your current energy use.  Support mirror and wind farms on Federal protected land.  Make sure no more power dams are removed. Support all local, state, federal efforts to ramp up trash to fuel conversion if it doesn't inordinately use water resources.  Ban SUV's from families with less than 5 Stop all car races, drag races, road races, dune buggies, Indianapolis 500 style and NASCAR races. Ride trains instead of airplanes.
