If a virus can make you sick, then a computer virus makes your computer sick. Just like all human viruses, they multiply, or make copies of themselves. To multiply, they hijack an entire cell then a bunch of itself come out. Just like regular viruses,  some computer viruses are relatively benign, they do nothing at all, just replicate. Replicate means multiply. Computer viruses don't just appear out of nowhere. Someone has to make them and the people that make them are people that are just too good with computers. Regular viruses just came into humans bodies and make them sick. Nobody knows how viruses were created, but people knew that they were microscopic or not visible by the naked eye. There is differences between the two. A computer virus infects a computer while a human virus like HIV infect the HUMAN itself. Well, there ya go. -Reptoslicer

Biological viruses contain DNA or RNA and protein.  The first two molecules contain information like computer programs do.  Proteins are tools that can build new structures.  Biological virus proteins are used to get them docked to target cells and then inside.  Sometimes they also are used to takeover the cell's DNA processes.  Biological viruses require the resources of a cell to make copies of themselves.  When they replicate they clog up the normal operation of the cell, produce toxic waste and end up destroying the cell.  If they go into hiding in the cell's DNA they may sit quietly waiting for the right time to activate and replicate.  Computer viruses can be designed to wait too for a date, time......  They can hog the computer's resources and shut down the whole operating system.  The similarites between the computer virus and the biological viruses were so strong, the computer damaging programs were called viruses.

nobody knows how viruses were created. for your second and third questions, i agree with repto slicer- its a computer program, those computer viruses, and it infects your computer. the natural ones and robotic ones are called viruses because their same priorities: infiltrate, duplicate andspread.
