The radius of a softball is almost 2 inches. The radius of a basketball is almost 5 inches How would the surface area of a basketball compare to the surface area of a softball ?

Area is measured in square units and distance (like a radius) is measured in simple length.  So, since the objects are the same shape (sphere), we can just compare the SQUARE of their radii.Basketball:  25 sq. in.Softball:  4 sq.in.The Basketball's surface area is about 6.25 times as large.
