First, you should always do exponents. Since there is none, just ignore the step. Then go to parentheses. There is no parentheses so ignore that too. Then we end up on multiplication AND division LEFT TO RIGHT. That is important. Some people actually do multiplication first instead of doing the division first. So, 4 x 4 = 16 then we DIVIDE by four. That equals four. Then multiply 4 again and you end up with 16. So that is the answer. 16.

It really depends on how its written...IF 4*4 and 4*4 is separated by a fraction bar, the answer is 1. But I'm assuming it is not, so you would go left to right...4*4 = 16...16 / 4 = 4...4 * 4 = 16
