photosynthesis is a process of using light energy to power a series of chemical reactions inside cells, ultimately building carbohydrates like glucose from CO2 and H2O.  Biochemistry is typically used to refer to the complex chemical reactions that occur inside of living things.  Since photosynthesis is the way plants and algae 1) capture energy and store it and 2) get more building materials (those glucoses can be used to build more complex molecules, such as cellulose for cell walls instead of being broken down by the mitochondria), it is one of the most important biochemical processes in nature.  Other examples of biochemical processes include respiration (the chemical breakdown of molecules to release usable energy), protein synthesis, DNA replication, etc.
