School is like PE for the mind. Sometimes it's fun, other times it seems like boring exercises, but like push-ups and sit-ups, while I don't think I'm likely to need to do a bunch of sit-ups during my regular life, I know that doing them makes my muscles stronger so I can do the things I want.Algebra is great for developing the math and logic skills you may need later in life, whether it's for figuring out the number of cans of paint you need to paint your bedroom walls, or your finances. Because I "get" math, I've been able to set up loans where I essentially was paid by my bank to take out a loan instead of the other way around. Some of the problems people have gone through in the last couple of years with foreclosures, etc was because they didn't really understand the math behind the loans they were taking out. It's a cliche, but it really is true- knowledge is power.
