5/4 times 8 = 10 divide both sides by 8 to get 5/4 by itself 5/4 x 8 ÷ 8 = 10 ÷ 8 8 ÷ 8 cancells out so you get 5/4 = 10/8 and you should know 10/8 is the same as 5/8 so that's how you get it.

5/4 is multiplied by 8, in fraction form it is 8/1.  As a result 5 times 8 equals 40 as the numerator.  4 times 1 gives us 4 as the denominator.  Finally the numerator divided by the denominator results in our final answer of 4.5 * 8      40      4-    -   =   -  =   -  =  44    1        4      1

you would divide 8 by 4 which is 2. THen you multiply 2 by 5 which equals 10.
