How would I factor this?

The plus sign in front of 196 says the factors have the same sign.  The - sign in front of the 57 says the signs are negative.  The factors of 2 x^2 must be 2x and x so start like this: (2x-   )(x -    ) Now you are looking for whole number factors of 196:   196 and 1 98 and 2; 49 and 4.  The first two sets will not give you anything like 57 in the middle term because they have to add together.  49 and 4 are close to 57 and then you see you can multiply the 4 by 2.  Placing the 49 and the 4 properly will do so:   (2x-49)(x-4) works because using FOIL you get 2x^2-49x-8x +196.  Simplified this is your starting expression.
