An observation is merely taking notice of something happening in real life.An inference is the next step, taking what you observed and inferring that it's related to something else.Example: I notice that when I leave ice out, it melts. So I'd infer that ice melts when the temperature rises.Scientists often make inferences and then experiment to prove their inference correct or wrong, and coming to a conclusion.

An inference is a guess using prior knowledge and past experinces. For example : a kid is crying you can infer they got hurt. Why ? because you have witnessed a person cry before because they're hurt or something. Observations are made using the five senses and you can actually prove it happened because you either saw , heard , smelled , taste , or felt it happen.
