I assume you want to compress this into 1 fraction so... You want everything to have a common denominator to you can add everything together. the LCD (Lowest Common Denominator) would be 1*1*(x+4) which is x+4 so, bring everything to that common denominator. The first term is x, add the common denominator in to get x/(x+4) easy enough... BUT WAIT, everything done to the bottom has to be done to the top so you have x*(x+4)/(x+4) which is (x^2+4x)/(x+4), repeating the steps with 4 we get (4x+16)/(x+4) adding the three terms together and we get (x^2+4x+4x+16+1)/(x+4) which is (x^2+8x+17)/(x+4) which is the answer
