It is part of PEMDAS- Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally Example: 3/2+3 is different from 3/(2+3). The first answer is 4.5; the second answer is 3/5.

I agree with yankeekid. PEMDAS is the method of remembering the 6 steps. Parentheses, Equations, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction or as everybody likes to call it: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally.
