well first i would eliminate the ( ) becasue they are confusing and uneeded. then add 9 to each side (because 4x minus 9 is really 4x + negitive 9 so we add 9 to cancel out) when simplifed the new equation is 4x-3x=8x+8 then combined like terms, and we get x=8x+8, subtract 8x from each side to get -7x=8. then divide each side by -7 so we can get x by itt's self. x is then equal to 8/-7 (-1.142857...) then the most important thing is to plug 8/-7 back into the equation. when we do that, we get -10 and 1/7

distribute: 4x - 9 + 3x = 8x - 1 combine like terms: 7x - 9 = 8x - 1 subtract 7x: -9 = 7x - 1 add 1: -8 = 7x divide: x = -8/7 plug it back in: -17 & -10.14 ?
