I know this teacher knows what he is doing, but "tax rate" and "amount of tax" are being used interchangeably--which could confuse some.  You pay the same tax rate, but a different amount. Serving,

You are right. The tax rate is very different than the tax amount. The tax rate is a percent, while the tax amount is a dollar amount. So 5% can be a tax rate, and $1.50 can be a tax amount. Vice versa does not make sense.
