You set it up algebraically.  In this case, y is the first angle, and x is its supplement.y = 3x - 20x + y = 180x + (3x - 20) = 1804x = 160x = 40Therefore, the second angle is 40.  It is the supplement to the first angle, which combined equals 180.180 - 40 = 140Therefore, y, or the first angle, = 140
