Here you do the opposite of each thing. But you have to keep it balenced on both sides of the equals sign, what you do to one side you must do to the other.x-1) /4=1/2   1/2 also equals .5 So you work your way backwards. (x-1)/4=.5       *4  *4(x-1)=24 times .5= 2  You do this because the opposite of dividing is multiplying. Also you have to make the four turn into a zero so how would you do that? Divide.(x-1)=2   +1 +1x=32+1 because the opposite of subtracting is adding. Also you have to make the negative one into a zero. So you add one.Then after you've finished that you should check your answer by putting it into the place of the variable.(3-1)/4=.5 (or 1/2)Hope I helped!
